ZipBee is a Microsoft Outlook client extension which automatically and transparently compresses file attachments using the well-known ZIP format.
ZipBee also provides a Microsoft Windows shell extension, which enables you to compress and decompress files directly from the Microsoft Windows Explorer.
With ZipBee you don't need any other Zip product !
At the moment in version 1.71, the following Microsoft products support ZipBee
Microsoft client Exchange 4.0 and 5.0 (32 bits)
Microsoft Outlook 97
Microsoft Outlook 98
Microsoft Outlook 2000
Microsoft Outlook 2002 SP1+
Microsoft Outlook 2003
Microsoft Outlook 2007
At the moment in version 1.71, ZipBee is available for Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, 2003 and XP systems. ZipBee is a 32-bits extension. ZipBee is not available for Macintosh or Windows 3.x systems.
No. In version 1.71, ZipBee is based on Extended MAPI and Exchange Client Extension (ECE) technologies, which are not supported by Microsoft Outlook Express. For enterprise messaging infrastructure, Microsoft Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003 provides a much richer set of features such as collaborative and workflow activities.
ZipBee has the following components :
Standard Edition |
ZipBee DLL for Microsoft Outlook extension
ZipBee DLL for Zip and Unzip routines
ZipBee options are located under the Tools / Option menu.
|
|
ZipBee uses freeware from the InfoZip group, providing a Zip compatible format. There are no extra charges or costs due to the use of this code, and the original compression sources are freely available from http://www.cdrom.com/pub/infozip or ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/infozip on the Internet.
ZipBee automatically compresses the file attachments when the message is sent. The compression is done on the client Microsoft Outlook before the message is sent over the network. All the messages are kept compressed in the messaging information store. |
ZipBee automatically decompress the file attachments when the receiver opens the attachment.
When sending the message, ZipBee automatically looks for each attached file, checks if it is an already Zipped file, and then calls the Zip compression routine. For each attached file, ZipBee replaces the original file with the compressed file, and changes the filename property by adding a .zip extension. So even if the receivers of the message do not have ZipBee, they are able to read the attached files by using an external Zip tool.
When sending the message, ZipBee can automatically crypt the attachments using a password. Encryption can be enabled for all messages or only for messages having the sensitivity set to 'Confidential'. Sensitivity is a message property accessible from the Options dialog box.
ZipBee is sold on a per-seat-licensing mode. The number of seats is calculated from your number of Microsoft Outlook licenses. See the sales page.
As your messaging system grows, you may need to increase your number of ZipBee licenses. The number of Microsoft Outlook where ZipBee is installed defines the number of ZipBee licenses needed. So when upgrading your Microsoft Select licenses, you may have to register and pay for additional ZipBee licenses.
If ZipBee is deployed at the same time as Microsoft Outlook, you can register the ZipBee components with the Microsoft Outlook Deployment Kit (ODK).
If ZipBee is deployed on an existing messaging infrastructure, each client can execute an setup program which automatically registers the ZipBee extension.
